Steven E. Browne ’73, High Definition Postproduction: Editing and Delivering HD Video (Focal Press, 2007)

This is a hands-on manual for professionals in film and video production and postproduction. It features an overview of HD, a chapter on shooting details, and a rundown of postproduction workflows, accompanied by examples. Browne is senior editor at New Wave Entertainment, a postproduction company in Burbank, California. He also wrote Video Editing: A Postproduction Primer.

Kevin Cooper ’96 and Catherine Cooper, Night of Four Moons (Doberman-Yppan, 2006)

This live-recording CD is a collaboration between guitarist Kevin Cooper and mezzo-soprano Catherine Cooper, and features the premier of compositions by Steven Gates. The three have worked together since they were graduate students at the University of Southern California.This collection features works based on poetry by American Indian, Spanish, and English poets. Composers include Brouwer, Dusan Bogdanovic, and David Leisner. Cooper is a classical and baroque guitarist based in Los Angeles, classical guitar contributor to zapguitar.com, and artist in residence at Whittier College; he also teaches at Pierce College and Los Angeles City College.

Vincent Cresanti ’50, M.S. ’64, More Nursing Home Favorites (Cotton Hill Studios, 2006)

Cresanti’s latest CD is named for the audience he caters to in the Amsterdam, New York, area. The collection is a variety of keyboard standards of the Big Band Era. Cresanti says he feels privileged to be playing and singing at 81, and that “being able to is due to attending Ithaca’s music school and teaching music for all those many years.”

David Fischer ’84, Albert Pujols (part of the World’s Greatest Athletes series, Child’s World, 2006)

Written for grade levels 2–8, this is part of a 16-book set. It tells the story of the St. Louis Cardinals first baseman who last year became the first Major League Baseball player to hit 30 or more home runs in each of his first six seasons and the youngest to hit 250 home runs. He has had six straight 100-RBI seasons.

Sean Heffron ’99, Seams (Publish-America, 2006)

This novel, the first by speech communications graduate Heffron, follows Columbia University student Boone Bradford as he enjoys a simple life filled with friends, baseball, and the occasional class. One day a man named Rodger enters his life. Boone finds himself torn between his life and another world. Heffron is project coordinator at Applied Psychological Techniques in Darien, Connecticut.

Tobe Levin ’70 (translator and afterword contributor), Born in the Big Rains: A Memoir of Somalia and Survival by Fadumo Korn with Sabine Eichhorst (Feminist Press, 2006)

Activist Fadumo Korn’s tale begins with the traumatic female genital mutilation she underwent as a child, covers the crippling rheumatism it triggered, and shares her subsequent journey to health and working for the common good. Now based in Germany, Korn works for Forward-Germany, an organization dedicated to eradicating FGM. Levin is a professor at the University of Maryland in Europe (Heidelberg) and nonresident fellow of the W.E.B. DuBois Institute at Harvard University.

Terri Levine ’78, M.S. ’79, Larina Kase, and Joe Vitale, The Successful Coach: Insider Secrets to Becoming a Top Coach (Wiley, 2006)

Levine, a business coach, teamed up with an Internet marketing expert and a business psychologist on this training guide for executive and life coaches. It focuses on how to build a coaching business and market services in this growing field. Levine is CEO of the Coaching Institute, a national, specialized training program for producing successful life coaches.

Lauren Serafin ’96, Jason Rohrer, and Mez, Saturday with Mez: A Day in the Life of a Breastfeeding Toddler (Rohrer Corporation, 2006)

Looking through the books on babies at the local library, Serafin noticed a dearth of books depicting breastfeeding. She created and self-published this children’s board book featuring 28 pages of black-and-white photographs of a day in the life of her daughter Mez, now three years old.

Ben Willmott ’05, Nowhere to Go but Up (By the Way Music, 2006)

In this debut full-band EP, the singer-songwriter- musician blends his pop, rock, folk, and classical music influences into six original studio tracks. Willmott, heard on the piano, organ, and vocals, coproduced all of the songs.
