The Bomber golf program began taking shape in the spring of 2009, and the team played a complete varsity schedule beginning in the 2009–10 season under head coach Dan Wood, a member of the Professional Golfers' Association of America, and his wife and assistant coach, Sandi Wood. In its opening season, the Bombers golf team posted an average round of 98.125 per golfer.

During the first half of the 2012–13 season, Ithaca College ranked 20th in all of NCAA Division III women’s golf with a scoring average of 81.95 per player. The improvement is due to several factors.

Over the last three seasons, the Bombers have been able to attract more talented recruits because of the team’s measurable improvement, the Ithaca College student-athlete experience, and the college’s academic programming. The team has also taken advantage of the Athletics and Events Center, where indoor practice times are available. An annual spring training trip to Florida gets players out on the course ahead of the spring season. Plus, the coaching staff includes a former tour player in Dan and a decorated amateur player in Sandi, who has won state and club championships in New York, Florida, and Georgia.

The Bombers have reigned atop the Empire 8, with three consecutive conference championships, including a record-setting performance at the 2012 event that saw Ithaca win by a 121-stroke margin over the second-place team. The players in Ithaca’s lineup finished in the top five places in the individual standings at that event and swept the all-Empire 8 first team honors.

Now the Bombers have their sights set on greater goals. The Ithaca College team has fared very competitively in tournaments against the best teams in the northeast region and stood 15th nationally in head-to-head scoring rankings. Ithaca was ranked third in the east region by the National Golf Coaches Association and is on the verge of qualifying for the 2013 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship, May 14–17, in Destin, Florida.
