The 1,000-Point Club

In the first 47 years of the Ithaca College women’s basketball program, only 10 players have reached the 1,000-point milestone. This year, two more players added their names to that list.

Kathryn Campbell ’13 reached 1,000 career points during a December 30 game at DePauw University, which was the top-ranked Division III team in the nation at that time. Less than a month later, Jenn Escobido ’14 surpassed the milestone in a careerbest 24-point scoring night January 24 against Stevens Institute of Technology.

Katherine Bixby ’10, an assistant coach for the Bombers, was the last player to reach 1,000 points, in 2010. Four years later, she is part of the continuing success of the program.

Bixby, Campbell, and Escobido are linked by the longest era of sustained success in Ithaca College women’s basketball history. The team has qualified for the NCAA Division III tournament in 10 of the past 14 years.

During Bixby’s four seasons, Ithaca recorded 73 wins and 38 losses and made two trips to the NCAA tournament. She became the second Bomber women’s basketball player to earn all-America honors following her senior season.

A year later, Campbell and Escobido arrived on South Hill to begin their careers. They have contributed to three straight seasons with 20 or more victories and back-to-back trips to the NCAA playoffs. As sophomores in 2011–12, they were starters and all-conference selections on a team that won a school-record 24 games. They followed that by leading Ithaca to an even better season in 2012–13, as Ithaca won 27 games and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16.

Campbell and Escobido join Bixby in another elite classification, as both have earned all-America distinction during their careers. Escobido was an honorable mention all-America selection by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) in 2012, and Campbell garnered the same award from the WBCA in 2013.
