I Remember When I Spent the Semester in L.A.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the James B. Pendleton Center in Los Angeles. Brett Bossard ’95, executive director of Cinemapolis theater in Ithaca, recalled a few memories from his time in the L.A. program’s first year.

“A mere seven days after we arrived on the West Coast, the Northridge earthquake rumbled through Los Angeles and the Oakwood Apartments. My roommates and I had never experienced an earthquake before, so when we saw that only a speaker had fallen from a shelf in our apartment, we all went back to bed, thinking it was just something that Californians dealt with every day. It wasn’t until several hours later that we all got up and heard from our classmates the extent of the damage the 6.7 quake had left behind, including a condemned building just a short walk through the Oakwood campus! Our worried families did not find it quite as funny as we did.”

Bossard also remembered how he worked on the Talk Soup show on E! Entertainment Television, and he got to meet and work alongside many ’90s celebrities, including Faith Ford, Tori Spelling, and Greg Kinnear.
