Dan Swanstrom Named Head Coach of Football Program

In December 2016, Dan Swanstrom was named the 10th head coach in the history of the Ithaca College football program and is just the third since 1967. He replaced longtime head coach Mike Welch ’73, who announced his retirement prior to the start of the 2016 season.

Swanstrom comes to Ithaca after spending the previous three seasons as the quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to Penn, he spent six seasons at Division III Johns Hopkins University, five as the team’s offensive coordinator.

A former quarterback and two-time captain at Rhodes College in Tennessee, Swanstrom was a three-time all-conference selection.

“Dan Swanstrom will embrace and honor the tradition of excellence of Bomber football and lead the program to the level of competitive success that Ithaca aspires to on the field,” Ithaca College athletic director Susan Bassett ’79 stated. “At IC, we do things the right way, the Bomber way, and I am confident that while Coach Swanstrom will bring his own style to leading the football program, he will embody the values we hold dear: integrity, respect, sportsmanship, and a high work ethic.”
