Two Celebrations at Once

While Ithaca College celebrated its 125th anniversary, Tompkins County commemorated its bicentennial in a yearlong celebration that concluded in April. The festivities included a Toast to Tompkins Day in Trumansburg, an exhibit at the History Center in Ithaca, and even a 10-foot- tall birthday cake that was part of the Ithaca Festival parade. The commission placed signs in each of the nine towns of the county, in the City of Ithaca, and in the two towns that left the county (Covert and Hector). They even commissioned an ice cream flavor—the Tompkins Swirl—from Sweet Melissa’s Ice Cream.
