Financial Oracle Ranks IC a Best Buy

By Sara Friedman ’13

Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine named Ithaca College one of the 100 best values in private universities for 2010–2011. IC placed 75th in Kiplinger’s rankings, which features top schools that deliver high-quality academics at affordable prices. The rankings appeared in the December 2010 issue of the magazine.

Kiplinger’s uses a specific method to determine the ranking of the colleges, says David Maley, associate director of media relations at IC. And they measure public and private universities individually.

Kiplinger’s takes data on more than 600 private institutions and sorts the schools first based on quality measures such as the admission rate, test scores of incoming freshmen,
and four- and five-year graduation rates,” he says. “It then adds cost dataincluding
tuition, fees, room and board, and financial aidand re-ranks the institutions accordingly. This combination of quality and affordability determines which schools make the lists for best value.”
