The Good Life: Everyone Wants It, But What Is It?

Socrates famously proclaimed the unexamined life not worth living, thus raising questions about what would constitute a worthy, appropriate, or good life for a human being. Reflection on the good life is among the preeminent quandaries of the human condition. Is there one form of life that is good, or many? Can the goodness of life be objectively determined; can a person be mistaken about whether or not their life is a good one? Must a good life be a morally good one? At issue are fundamental questions of value, how we ought to live, how we should treat one another, and how we ought to govern ourselves.
This lecture is free and open to the public.
