News anchor and correspondent John Seigenthaler will discuss how the September 11 terrorist attacks have affected the way reporters now do their jobs when he delivers the Jessica Savitch Distinguished Journalism Lecture Series talk at Ithaca College. The event is free and open to the public.
Seigenthaler first joined NBC News in 1996 as coanchor of "Morning Line," MSNBC's live weekday morning news broadcast. He rose quickly through the NBC News ranks, serving as substitute anchor for the weekend editions of "Nightly News," "Weekend Today," and MSNBC's "The News with Brian Williams." He currently anchors "MSNBC Investigates" and serves as weekend anchor and correspondent for "NBC Nightly News."
The many breaking news stories Seigenthaler has reported on since joining NBC News include the special coverage of John F. Kennedy Jr.'s plane crash, the NATO air strikes in Kosovo and Yugoslavia, and school shootings in Paducah, Jonesboro, and Littleton. Seigenthaler also covered the House impeachment and Senate trial of President Clinton and reported on the 1996 Olympic Park bombing in Atlanta.
Seigenthaler has won several communications honors, including a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for a series of stories on the civil rights movement and National Headliner and Iris Awards for coverage of a Tennessee prison riot.
The Jessica Savitch Distinguished Journalism Lecture Series is sponsored by the Roy H. Park School of Communications. It honors the 1968 Ithaca College graduate who became an Emmy Award-winning NBC News anchor and correspondent. Previous speakers in the series, which is celebrating its 11th anniversary, have included Cokie Roberts, Ann Curry, John Palmer, and Andrea Mitchell.
