Ithacan Students Win Awards

This semester the Ithacan and its staff were notified about a number of honors, presented for calendar year 2002 (spring 2002 editor in chief, Kylie Yerka '02; fall 2002 editor in chief, Ellen R. Stapleton '03).

THE ITHACAN

Earlier in the year, the Ithacan was named a finalist for the Pacemaker Award by the Associated Collegiate Press/College Media Advisers for issues produced during the 2001-02 academic year.

The paper also received gold medalist certificates for the fall 2001 and spring 2002 semesters from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in its annual college newspaper critique for 2002. The gold medal certificate is the highest rating.

INDIVIDUAL STUDENT AWARDS

The New York Press Association awards were presented at the NYPA's spring convention in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., on April 12. The Society of Professional Journalists Northeast Region awards were presented at their convention in Port Jefferson, N.Y., also on April 12.
