The Office of First Year Programs and Orientation, in collaboration with faculty and staff members across campus, is developing a pilot outdoor adventure program for new students this August.

The adventure (the name of which has yet to be determined) will take place August 21-22. Approximately 40 new students will be lead by upper-class students, staff, and faculty on a one night camping trip. By taking part in this shared experience, the students will build a support group for their transition to Ithaca College.

Goals of the program include helping students to develop positive relations with faculty and staff, to learn more about their own ability and skill levels, and to be engaged in developing a supportive environment both in and outside the academic classroom. The planning committee will continue to meet this summer to determine the details of the program.

We will be providing opportunities for staff and faculty to join the student groups for the over-night experience or for a portion of time the evening of the first day and invite your participation. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Kim Uyttenhove at 4-1908 or kuyttenhove@ithaca.edu by Friday, May 16th.
