ITS Remote Updates for Windows Computers

08/23/03

Contributed by J. R. Clairborne

In order to protect institutionally owned computers and keep our computing environment safe, up-to-date, and secure, Information Technology Services will periodically update various software programs and perform critical security patches over the College network.

In light of the recent viruses that are seriously disrupting the College network, these updates will begin immediately.

We have configured institutionally owned computers to allow these updates and patches to be installed remotely via the network. Some of these updates may prompt you to install the software and reboot the computer. However, where possible we will do these installs behind the scenes so as not to interrupt your work. If you are prompted to install software or reboot your computer, you can always decide to do this later.

We strongly encourage you to keep the computer you use current with these software updates to ensure the security of your information and to allow us to better support you. If you have any questions, please contact the ITS Helpdesk by e-mail or at 4-3282.
