Students/Alumni of Color Celebrate Professionals Symposium 2003

September 12-14 brings us the annual Professionals Symposium. For nearly 20 years, the symposium has brought Office of Multicultural Affairs alumni and active community supporters to campus to share their expertise and insights with current students during multiple networking events.

Whatever a student's goals for graduate school or professional career, chances are good that an alum will be eager to inform and help, often in a continuing relationship. OMA cosponsors the Professionals Symposium with the College's offices of Alumni Relations and Career Services.

This year, the symposium occurs during Homecoming Weekend, September 12-14, enhancing the opportunity for students to meet alumni and participate in special events. The highlight of the symposium weekend, the annual Academic Achievement Awards Dinner, showcases the accomplishments of our OMA students. This gala evening always draws hundreds of attendees to applaud the students' strong scholarship and to honor alumni and community supporters. Sam Medina '92, VP of human resources at PepsiCo, will be the keynote speaker

Ithaca College faculty and staff are welcome to be our guests at the awards banquet on Saturday night, September 13, from 7:00-9:30 p.m. However, tickets are limited, so if you are interested in attending, contact the OMA office at 4-3881 as soon as possible.

Friday, September 12

5:00-7:00 p.m.

Symposium Meet & Greet Pizza Party, Clark Lounge
Interested in offering career advice to current students? Come chat over Rogan's pizza and wings while dispensing some wisdom on the work world to students of color. Special table for alumni wishing to offer general advice on coping with student life.

Saturday, September 13

9:30-11:00 a.m.

OMA Alumni Involvement Breakfast, Klingenstein Lounge
Alums come together to discuss the possible formation of an IC alumni-of-color club! Also find out about other ways to interact with students through our Alumni Mentoring Program and the ICUNITY website. Any new ideas welcome!

1:00-4:00 p.m.

Homecoming Football Game, Butterfield Stadium
IC Bombers vs. Alfred University. Current and former members of the Amani Gospel Singers will open the game by singing the national anthem.

6:30-7:00 p.m.

Awards Banquet Reception, Emerson Suites Lobby
Wondering what ALS, KUUMBA, the Asia Society, Orgullo Latino, etc. are up to lately? Student clubs will set up tables in the reception area to let you know about their latest activities!

7:00-9:00 p.m.

Awards Banquet, Emerson Suites
Come celebrate the academic achievements of ALANA and opportunity programs students over the past year! Sam Medina '92, VP of Human Resources at PepsiCo, will be the keynote speaker. This year's banquet will also include a memorial tribute to Barb Weinsheimer.
