"The whole campus is invited," says Bonnie Solt Prunty. "We'd really like to get some energetic new student, faculty, and staff members this year."
Prunty is cochair of the Diversity Awareness Committee (DAC), which is opening its first meeting of the year to new members.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 16, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in Klingenstein Lounge (Campus Center) and will introduce the committee's work to new and returning members. Free lunch will be provided as well.
Subsequent meetings will be held biweekly on Tuesdays from 12:05 to 1:00 p.m. in Friends 102.
The DAC's mission is to "provide educational programs, training sessions, and experiential activities on issues of diversity" for the Ithaca College community. The committee has sponsored, cosponsored, or contributed to numerous events related to diversity yearly. Last year these events included a Disability Forum; the Unity Festival (now the IC Our World celebration, to be held on Friday, September 19); the visits of distinguished guests Christian dé la Huerta, Leslie Feinberg, Yossi Klein Halevi, Pat Griffin, Winona LaDuke, and the Cornell Interactive Theater Ensemble; Caribbean Culture Night; the AIDS memorial quilt showing; film and lecture series; and the first-ever IC Rainbow Reception for LGBT graduates and their friends and families. DAC also actively researched and supported an academic diversity requirement, which will be discussed at the Core Experience Committee this year.
"If you want to get involved to make a difference on your campus, please come to our first meeting," says Prunty. "We would welcome your energy and ideas."
RSVP to Bonnie Solt Prunty, 274-3141, if you are coming to the September 16th meeting and contact her for more information about the DAC.
