The second anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks will be commemorated at Ithaca College with a "Prayer Service for World Peace." The interfaith program will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, on the Muller Chapel lawn. The rain location will be the Muller Chapel sanctuary.

The service will feature prayers for peace from a variety of faith traditions as well as brief remarks. The program is sponsored by the Office of the Chaplains and the Interfaith Council. In addition, in a symbolic display only the two center Dillingham Center fountains will be turned on for the day.

At last year's first-anniversary commemoration, a "peace pole" was dedicated outside the chapel in memory of those associated with the Ithaca College community who were killed in the attacks.

President George W. Bush has proclaimed September 11, 2003, as Patriot Day, asking the people of the United States to observe the day with appropriate ceremonies and activities. "I call upon all Americans to display the flag at half-staff from their homes on that day and to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. eastern daylight time to honor the innocent victims who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001."
