Curtain time is 8:00 p.m., with an additional 2:00 p.m. matinee on Saturday, October 4, and Sunday, October 5. All performances will take place in the Clark Theatre in Dillingham Center. Performances on October 10 and 11 are available to Family Weekend participants only.
Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office in Dillingham Center, the Ticket Center located in the Clinton House (607) 273-4497, and Cornell University's Willard Straight Hall. Prices range from $4.50 to $10.00. The Dillingham ticket office is open Monday through Friday, noon to 5:00 p.m., beginning September 22. Described as, "Dark but colorful...," by the New York Times, The Waiting Room is the story of three women, each abused by their respective century's male-dominated conception of beauty. Set primarily in a doctor's waiting room, each woman confesses her struggle to achieve ideal beauty. We see Forgiveness from Heaven, an 18th-century Chinese woman, who suffers the loss of a toe caused by having her feet tightly bound since childhood. She is accompanied by Victoria, whose corset has not only harmed her physically, but psychologically as well. Lastly, there is present-day Wanda, whose numerous breast implants have left her with cancer. With the use of simultaneous scenes set in both the past and present, playwright Lisa Loomer guides the audience through the life-altering experiences of Forgiveness from Heaven, Victoria, and Wanda. This performance does contain mature language and situations.
Director Krista Scott is in her third year as an assistant professor of theater arts. Last year she directed The Laramie Project. Scott has acted in theater companies throughout the Midwest. She cofounded and served as associate director of the New Tradition Theatre Company in St. Cloud, Minnesota, where she worked for 10 years as a director, playwright, actor, and educator. Her directing credits include Dancing at Lughnasa, Good Night Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet), Kiss Me Kate, The Heidi Chronicles, and The Bacchae.
Cast members for The Waiting Room include Heather Hill '04 as Victoria, Auri Marcus '06 as Wanda, Amanda Morton '04 as Forgiveness from Heaven, and Gaelyn Walker '04 as Brenda.
The design team includes scenic designer Hannah Davis '05, costume designer Kara Harmon '05, lighting designer Adrianna Durantt '04, and sound designer associate professor John Bracewell.
