In addition to Prokofiev's "Sonata for Flute and Piano" and an arrangement of Bartok's "Romanian Folk Songs," the program will offer traditional Argentinean tangos and songs for flute and guitar as well as "Mountain Songs," an arrangement of Appalachian folk songs for flute and guitar by Robert Beaser, this year's Karel Husa Visiting Professor of Composition.
A performer with the Ithaca Wind Quintet, Mehne is also a member of the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra and a founding member of the new-music group Ensemble X. Mehne has been a guest artist and given master classes nationwide, including the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Michigan State University, University of Texas at Austin, Lawrence Conservatory of Music, Skidmore College, and Interlochen National Music Camp.
As a member of the Ithaca Wind Quintet, she performed the world premiere of Karel Husa's Cayuga Lake (Memories) at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall and Dana Wilson's Mirrors at the 1993 National Flute Association convention in Boston. She has also performed at Carnegie Hall, Constitution Hall, the national ACDA and SEAMUS conferences, the International Guitar Festival in Fort de France, and in broadcasts by affiliates of National Public Radio.
Mehne is a contributing author for the magazines Flute Talk and the Instrumentalist and has recorded for Mark Records and Open Loop. She has been secretary of the National Flute Association and served on their executive board. Mehne holds degrees from the University of Nebraska, Michigan State University, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
