Susan Waterbury, assistant professor of music performance at Ithaca College, will present a free violin recital on Saturday, October 4. The recital will include sonatas by Prokofiev and Schubert as well as the premiere of a composition for solo violin by Ithaca composer Sally Lamb.
The performance will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the Whalen Center.
The winner of the 2001 Charles Ives Fellowship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Lamb has also received awards from the New York Foundation for the Arts and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). Her works have been performed by the Ariadne String Quartet, Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, Cornell University Wind Ensemble, Ithaca College Wind Ensemble, Eastman Wind Orchestra, Society for New Music, and Cayuga Vocal Ensemble.
Waterbury joined the Ithaca College School of Music faculty in 2000. She teaches violin and chamber music. A frequent chamber music collaborator and recitalist, she performs with the resident Ariadne String Quartet and has performed with the Contemporary Chamber Players from Memphis, the Ithaca-based Ensemble X, and Present Music from Milwaukee. Waterbury is a founding member of the Cavani String Quartet, which has won a number of honors, including the Banff International, Fischoff, Coleman, Carmel, Cleveland, and Naumburg competitions.
Waterbury spends her summers teaching and playing at the Rocky Mountain Summer Conservatory in Steamboat Springs, Colorado; the Adriatic Chamber Music Festival in Termoli, Italy; and the Mallorca Music Festival in Mallorca, Spain. Waterbury trained at Ohio State University, the Cincinnati College-Conservatory, and the Eastman School of Music.
