Adventure Recreation Club Faculty Opportunities

Have you ever kayaked up to a piece of floating driftwood, only to find out it was a crocodile; climbed a vertical wall of rock 200 ft. high; summited an Adirondack peak in a blinding February snowstorm; or caught a 25 lb. salmon on a fly rod? If not, you might want to try!

Since its inception last year, the student-led Adventure Recreation Club has grown to a base of about 80 members. The club was formed to instruct and lead students from across the College in basic and intermediate outdoor skills and safety. We are seeking faculty and staff involvement on a number of levels. You could:

  1. Bring your talents to the club through leadership of trips/clinics/presentations (e.g. a cross-country ski trip, a clinic on ski waxing, a presentation on an exotic eco-trip). E-mail Rob Porter to get involved.
  2. Join the club and learn new outdoor skills while mentoring students.
  3. Inform your students of the club. They can e-mail Matt Finucane about membership.
We welcome your involvement on any level. Recent trips have included sea kayaking, backpacking, rock climbing, skiing, and orienteering in Central New York, Everglades National Park, the Shawangunk Mountains, and the Adirondacks. Our desire is to teach and facilitate low-impact outdoor skills while providing an out-of-class experience for faculty and student interaction. Please join us!
