Passing It On: The Southside Story, a documentary written, filmed, and produced by students and many members of Ithaca's Southside neighborhood community, has been recognized for Excellence in Media Production in the college documentary category.
The award was granted by the Association of Educational Communication and Technology as part of its annual International Student Media Festival held in Anaheim, California, this past November.
The documentary was created in spring 2002, when 17 students from programs all across the College enrolled in assistant professor Simon Tarr's "Non-Fiction Film Production" course. The students collaborated with members of Ithaca's Southside community to create the documentary that highlights the neighborhood's rich history and roots, which date back to the Underground Railroad.
For more information about the documentary, contact Simon Tarr.
