Student Orchestras Give Concert

The Ithaca College Symphony and Chamber Orchestras will share the stage in giving a free concert on Saturday, December 6.

Beginning at 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall in the Whalen Center, the performance will feature Haydn's Symphony no. 104, Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, and Samuel Barber's Essay for Orchestra. Also on the program is Edward Elgar's symphonic masterpiece, the Enigma variations -- a theme and 14 variations, each depicting a character trait of one of Elgar's friends. Associate professor of music performance Jeffrey Grogan and School of Music graduate student Anna Sagdeeva will conduct.

Grogan

Grogan was previously acting director of bands at Baylor University. During a recent visit to Europe, he studied with several prominent conductors, including Tomás Koutník of the Prague Conservatory and Johannes Schlaefli from the Musik-Hochschule Winterthur in Zürich. Grogan also conducted the Bohuslava Martinu Philharmonic Orchestra of Zlín in the Czech Republic.
