Choral music, some of it seasonal, will be featured in a free concert performed by four Ithaca College School of Music choral ensembles on Sunday, December 7.
Featuring the Ithaca College Madrigal Singers, Choir, Chorus, and Women's Chorale, the performance will begin at 3:00 p.m. in Ford Hall in the Whalen Center. Lawrence Doebler and Janet Galván will conduct. Guitarist Pablo Cohen will perform with the chorus.
The madrigal singers will offer a set of traditional carols while the choir will sing spirituals arranged by Moses Hogan and a Poulenc motet, conducted by graduate conductor Elizabeth Swanson. The chorus will perform Dominick Argento's Gloria, selections from Rachmaninoff, and Pablo Sosa's El Cielo Canta Alegria, with guest artist Pablo Cohen, adjunct assistant professor of music performance. The women's chorale will sing a recent composition by Michael Torke and Tantum Ergo by Gabriel Fauré. The concert will conclude with all four ensembles joining together for a performance of Tchesnokoff's Salvation Is Created and a solo rendition of Silent Night
Lawrence Doebler recently celebrated his 25th year as conductor of the Ithaca College Choir. With the choir he has toured the United States and Ireland. He also serves as musical director of the Cayuga Vocal Ensemble, a professional choral ensemble based in Ithaca.
