Baritone Randie Blooding, an associate professor of music performance in Ithaca College's School of Music, will present a free recital on Friday, January 30.
The performance will begin at 8:15 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music. Kathy Hansen will be the collaborative pianist. The program will include works by Karel Husa, Charles Ives, Irving Fine, and Jake Heggie. Heggie's opera, "Dead Man Walking," was produced in 2000 at the San Francisco Opera.
Blooding has performed with many opera companies nationwide, including those in Columbus, Ohio, Dallas, Nashville, Pittsburgh, and Ithaca. Among his oratorio credits is his recording of Ralph Vaughan Williams's "Sea Symphony" with the Atlanta Civic Chorus. He has performed more than 200 recitals in 35 states and Canada.
Blooding is a past winner of the National Federation of Music Club's National Artist Competition and a district and regional winner of the Metropolitan Opera auditions. Before joining the Ithaca College faculty in 1990, Blooding maintained a private voice studio and sang professionally in New York City.
Blooding was formerly on the faculty at Southern Methodist and Middle Tennessee State Universities. He earned his doctorate in music from Ohio State University. He also holds degrees from Colorado State University and Southern Methodist.
