Howard Erlich, dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences, was elected to the executive committee of the American Conference of Academic Deans (ACAD) at its recent annual meeting.

Representing almost 700 academic deans, ACAD's mission is the professional development of deans through programming at its national meeting as well as through separate conferences, such as its recent jointly sponsored conference (with Phi Beta Kappa) on "Intellectual Leadership in the Liberal Arts." ACAD also sponsors publications and a website (www.acad-edu.org) offering decanal development opportunities.

Erlich's election to the five-person executive committee follows his three-year term on ACAD's 16-member board of directors.
