David Parks, professor of music performance, will give a free concert of British songs on Sunday, March 28, at 4:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the Whalen Center. Charis Dimaras will collaborate on piano and Paige Morgan on oboe.
A highlight of the concert will be Ralph Vaughan Williams's On Wenlock Edge, performed by Parks with Dimaras and the Ariadne String Quartet. The piece was composed shortly after Vaughan Williams studied in Paris with the impressionistic composer Ravel and is a depiction of the natural countryside.
Also on the program are Vaughan Williams's Blake Songs and Arthur Benjamin's creative and quirky arrangements of English folk songs.
Parks recently represented the United States in a performance of Mozart's Requiem in Sarajevo commemorating the victims of terrorism throughout the world. He has performed with opera companies nationwide including the Syracuse Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre, Chautauqua Opera, Arizona Opera, and Opera Delaware. Parks has appeared in over 50 oratorios nationally and with the Spoleto Festival in Europe, the South Africa National Arts Festival, and the Mauerbach Festival in Vienna.
