Angus Godwin, professor of music performance, will present a free concert of jazz and cabaret music at Ithaca College on Sunday, March 28.
The performance will begin at 8:15 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the Whalen Center. Guitarist Steve Brown, marimbist Gordon Stout, and bassist James Mick will join Godwin in playing favorite songs along with lesser-known works by Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Rogers and Hart, and others. All the arrangements for this concert were done by Steve Brown.
Godwin has appeared as soloist at Carnegie Hall and at Town Hall in New York City, where he sang in a series of "Twilight Concerts." He has appeared in a number of concerts for children, titled "Songs that Dance," with dancer Judith Janus. For 35 weeks he sang at Julius Monk's Plaza 9 in Hotel Plaza in New York City. He has performed on radio and television, including the Today show. Under the aegis of Columbia Artists Management, he has given more than 300 solo recitals throughout the United States and Canada.
Godwin holds degrees from Capital University, the Juilliard School, and Columbia University. He has been a member of the voice faculty at Ithaca College since 1969.
