The case study took place at a predominantly white, comprehensive liberal arts institution. The results are particularly significant for faculty at Ithaca College, where excellent teaching evaluations are instrumental for acquiring tenure.
Of particular interest was the finding that professors dealing with issues of diversity (class, gender, race, sexuality) were subject to the harshest criticism. This places faculty of color who are teaching diverse subject matter in double jeopardy, and female faculty of color, of course, in triple jeopardy.
I believe it is in the best interests of the College to commence an open dialogue on this issue, lest faculty of color focusing on multicultural issues be silenced for fear of reprisal.
