Ithaca College Theatre will present Yentl, a play by Leah Napolin and Isaac Bashevis Singer about one woman's quest for knowledge. Previewing on Tuesday, March 30, the show will open on April 1 and run until April 4.
Curtain times for these dates are 8:00 p.m., with additional 2:00 p.m. matinees on Saturday, April 3, and Sunday, April 4. All performances will take place in the Hoerner Theatre at Dillingham Center.
Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office in Dillingham Center, at the Clinton House Ticket Center, and Cornell University's Willard Straight Hall. Ticket prices range from $4.50 to $10.00. As a young girl from a Hasidic Jewish community, Yentl goes to great measures to continue her education after the death of her father. During her studies of the Talmud, the Jewish scriptures, Yentl discovers not only the multifaceted depth of her religion, but more about herself than she could have ever imagined.
Director Arno Selco has taught acting, directing, and musical theater performance, and directs theater productions at the rank of professor in the Department of Theatre Arts for over 21 years. He has received a Dana Fellowship for excellence in teaching, a President's Faculty Opportunity Award for achievement and service, and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Gold Medallion for Excellence in Service to the American College Theater Festival.
The Yentl cast includes Aly Friedman '06 as Yentl, Dan Weisman '06 as Nachum and Avigdor, and Lara Ianni '06 as Hadass. The artistic design team includes scenic designer Dan Meeker, assistant professor of theater arts; costume designer Kendra Nordt '04; and lighting designer Rose Howard '04.
