Cornell's Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art invites Ithaca College to "Explore the Johnson!" on April 10 for a special day of events planned especially for the Ithaca College community.

The museum will hold its first-ever event especially for the IC community on Saturday, April 10, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

"The Johnson Museum is a wonderful place to visit, to learn about art and culture from around the world, and to enjoy the views of Ithaca," said Frank Robinson, Richard J. Schwartz Director of the museum. "We are delighted to have this opportunity to welcome the Ithaca College community today -- and every day."

The free event was planned as a way of introducing Ithaca College students, faculty, and staff to the Johnson Museum by providing tours, entertainment, refreshments, and free, direct transportation to the museum from South Hill. A shuttle bus will be provided from the Ithaca College campus, leaving from the Textor Hall flag pole every half hour between 1:45 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. and returning from the Johnson Museum after each trip.

WICB-FM will be broadcasting live from the museum during the event. Local band Revision (featuring graduates of Ithaca College) will be performing throughout the event as well.

There will be two special tours of the museum: a tour of the permanent collection with a museum staff member at 2:30 p.m., and a tour of the three special exhibitions of photography by women with Ellie Brown, from the Ithaca College cinema and photography department at 3:00 p.m.

On view will be the museum's spring 2004 exhibitions including a major exhibition of contemporary Taiwanese art and three exhibitions featuring photography by women:

The Johnson Museum has a permanent collection of over 30,000 works of art from Africa, Asia, Europe, and North and South America. The museum building was designed by I. M. Pei. Funds for the building were donated by Cornell alumnus Herbert F. Johnson, chairman of S. C. Johnson & Sons, makers of Johnson Wax. The building opened in 1973.

The Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, located on the campus of Cornell University, is open Tuesdays to Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free. The museum is completely accessible for mobility-impaired visitors, and a wheelchair is available in the lobby. Metered parking is available in the lot next to the museum.
