This year's Jessica Savitch Distinguished Journalism Lecture Series presents Dawn Fratangelo, correspondent, Dateline NBC, speaking on "Television Journalism: Covering the World from A to Z"
The lecture will be held Thursday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. in Park Hall Auditorium in the Roy H. Park School of Communications
In her lecture Fratangelo will discuss many aspects of journalism, from local news to the network, from the anchor seat to the field. During her 22-year career in journalism, she has covered stories that have taken her many places including South Africa, Vietnam, Alaska, and most recently Thailand.
She has covered presidential summits, British Parliament, and the release of Nelson Mandela. But issues that have resonated most with her during her career are those involving children. Through her work, Fratangelo has seen how children can teach journalists and the world what is truly important. And along the way, there have been stories that have made her feel like a little kid herself-such as her interview with a baseball player in the dugout of Yankee Stadium, a Dateline story that was the inspiration for The Rookie, a movie starring Dennis Quaid.
Whether in hip waders on the Mississippi River or in a refined suit at the anchor desk, she thoroughly enjoys her job. It has been a unique ride for a small-town girl who grew up about 50 miles north of Ithaca and, before her professional career began, was named the top speaker at the 1981 state forensic championship here at Ithaca College.
A reception in the Park School lobby will immediately follow Fratangelo's presentation.
