"The Stravinsky piece is evocative and vivid," says Debra Moree, violist with the Ariadne String Quartet. "We decided that including a dancer in the performance would be appropriate, fun, and out of the ordinary."
In addition to Moree, the ensemble is composed of cellist Elizabeth Simkin and violinists Susan Waterbury and Rebecca Ansel. Formed in 1994 by members of the string faculty at the Ithaca College School of Music, the Ariadne String Quartet performs regularly at Ithaca College as well as in recital series throughout the region. The members of the group are also dedicated and experienced teachers, and each musician supports and nurtures large individual teaching studios. Together they team teach a thriving quartet seminar for six student string quartets.
Chair of the dance program at Wells College since 1987, Goddard teaches modern dance, ballet, composition, and improvisation. She is a founding member of Floorplay Contemporary Dance Theatre in Buffalo and of the improvisational cooperative Firehouse Dance Company in Ithaca. Her concert choreography has been commissioned by ballet, modern dance, and opera companies; WNED Public Television in Buffalo; and the Western New York Institute for the Arts in Education.
Parks is a professor of music performance in the School of Music. He recently represented the United States in a performance of Mozart's Requiem in Sarajevo, commemorating the victims of terrorism throughout the world. He has performed with opera companies nationwide including the Syracuse Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre, Chautauqua Opera, Arizona Opera, and Opera Delaware.
Dimaras is an assistant professor of musical performance in the School of Music. He has appeared with the Greek National Symphony Orchestra, the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, and the MAV Hungarian Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he has performed at the Salzburg Mozarteum International summer concerts, the Brighton and Newcastle International Chamber Music Festivals, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw Hall, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Juilliard Theater, and Alice Tully Hall at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
