Alexander Betancourt-Serrano will speak on the topic, "Let's Bury a Few Liberals: A Lacanian Gesture" on April 20.
Betancourt-Serrano, who teaches in the social thought and political economy program at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, will speak in the South Meeting Room, Campus Center on Tuesday April 20, between noon and 1:30 p.m. His talk starts from a critique of Spivak's postcolonial argument and Nusbaum's liberalism. This talk will propose an outline for a theoretical engagement between Freud (as providing an excellent antidote for the fetish with otherness) and Walter Benjamin who I believe can give us an acute sense of the historical materialism.
