World Premiere of Oratorio

The world premiere of Arctic Requiem will be presented in Park Auditorium on April 26, 4:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The work is a multimedia and live music reconception of the classic silent documentary Nanook of the North (Roberty Flaherty, USA, 1922) to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Robert Flaherty Film Seminars

The Arctic Requiem oratorio is based on the writings of Frances Flaherty. The Benedictus chant is comprised of all 2, 642 titles of films screened at the Flaherty Seminars over the last 50 years.

The performance is 80 minutes long and will be performed without an intermission.

Arctic Requiem is a special commission by Ithaca College, with support from the Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies, Office of Multicultural Affairs, Women Direct, School of Music, Office of the Provost, and the Roy H. Park School of Communications. Additional support provided by the Experimental Television Center's Presentation Funds program supported by the New York State Council on the Arts.
