The date has been set for the 2004 Community Fireworks Show.
The show will be shot from atop the Ithaca College campus on Thursday night, July 1, to kick off the local observance of the Independence Holiday weekend.
The Ithaca Community Fireworks Show has always been scheduled in advance of the actual holiday, according to Fran Benedict, chairman of the volunteer committee that organizes the show.
"We wanted to let everyone know the date now," Benedict said. "Be sure to mark your calendars now for central New York's best fireworks display, along with traditional and patriotic festivities preceding the fireworks."
Benedict said that contributions continue to be the mainstay of the fireworks shows, which began in 1947. "It's not too early to make a donation to support this year's show," he added.
Donations to support the 2004 fireworks show can be made by sending checks to the Community Fireworks Committee in care of Tompkins Trust Company, The Ithaca Commons, PO Box 460, Ithaca, NY 14851.
