Virus Alert Affecting Windows Computers
05/04/04
Contributed by Wendy Pearle
The Sasser worm has been detected on campus, particularly on the student ResNet. Most College-owned computers should have been automatically patched and protected. However, if your College-owned PC is experiencing unexplained reboots it is likely infected with this new worm and must be patched and cleaned. Please contact Helpdesk, 4-3282, to submit a service request.
As a reminder, good computing practices include:
- Shutting down your computer at night, so the next time it starts up you will receive any new Windows patches.
- Installing the new Windows patches with a click of the mouse button whenever you are prompted.
- Logging into your Novell account (i.e., Memphis or Pulsar) to receive the latest virus definition files for the College-owned computer.
If you have any questions, you can contact the ITS liaison for your area or the ITS Helpdesk.
