Ithaca College Board of Trustees Grants Tenure and Promotion

At its May meeting, the IC Board of Trustees granted tenure and/or promotion to 19 faculty members.

TENURE

Ernest Nalette was granted tenure.

Nalette, associate professor in the Department of Physical Therapy, came to Ithaca College as chair of graduate studies and director of the department's Rochester center in 1998. He received his B.S. from Ithaca College and his M.Ed. and Ed.D. from the University of Vermont.

PROMOTION

Asma Barlas, Stephen Clancy, Mary Turner DePalma, Marian MacCurdy, Hormoz Movassaghi, Deborah A. Nawoczenski, Michael Pagliarulo, Nancy de Villiers Rader, Mary Ann Rishel, Gordon Rowland, and Osman Yürekli were promoted from associate to full professor; Diane Birr, Richard Faria, Read Gainsford, and Mead Loop were promoted from assistant to associate professor; Barbara C. Belyea was promoted from clinical assistant professor to clinical associate professor; and Ron Denson and David Flanagan were promoted from instructor to assistant professor.

Barlas, Department of Politics, was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor in 1997. She received her B.A. from Kinnaird College for Women, Pakistan; M.A. from the University of Punjab, Pakistan; and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Denver.

Clancy, Department of Art History, was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor in 1994. He received B.A., J.D., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees from Cornell University.

DePalma, Department of Psychology, was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor in 1996. She received her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and Ph.D. from Cornell University.

MacCurdy, Department of Writing, was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor in 1996. She received B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees from Syracuse University.

Movassaghi, Department of Business Administration, was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor in 1994. He received his B.S. and M.S. from Shiraz (Pahlavi) University, Iran; and M.S., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Nawoczenski, Department of Physical Therapy (Rochester), was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor in 1996. She received her B.S. and M.Ed. from Temple University, and Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.

Pagliarulo, Department of Physical Therapy (Ithaca), was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor in 1989. He received his B.A. and B.S. from the State University of New York at Buffalo; M.A. from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles; and Ed.D. from Syracuse University.

Rader, Department of Psychology, was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor in 1990. She received her A.B. from Smith College and Ph.D. from Cornell University.

Rishel, Department of Writing, was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor in 1996. She received her B.A. and M.A. from the University of Pittsburgh and M.F.A. from Cornell University.

Rowland, Department of Organizational Communication, Learning, and Design, was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor in 1997. He received his B.M. from the University of Connecticut, M.M. from Ithaca College, and Ph.D. from Indiana University, Bloomington.

Yürekli, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor in 1995. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the University of Istanbul, Turkey; and Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Birr, Department of Performance Studies, came to the College in 1993. She received her B.S. from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point; M.M. from Indiana University, Bloomington; and Ph.D. from the Eastman School of Music.

Faria, Department of Performance Studies, came to the College in 1995. He received his B.M. from Ithaca College, M.M. from Michigan State University and D.M.A. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Gainsford, Department of Performance Studies, came to the College in 1997. He received his B.M. from Auckland University, New Zealand.

Loop, Department of Journalism, came to the College in 1995. He received his B.A. from Ithaca College and M.A. from the University of Missouri, Columbia.

Belyea, Department of Physical Therapy (Ithaca), came to the College in 1989 and was promoted from clinical instructor to clinical assistant professor in 1995. She received her B.S. and M.S. degrees from Ithaca College.

Denson, Department of Writing, came to the College in 1986. He received his B.A. from Yale University and M.A. from Cornell University.

Flanagan, Department of Writing, came to the College in 1988. He received his B.S. from Nazareth College of Rochester and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Cornell University.
