Betsy Taylor, president of the Center for a New American Dream, will be our special guest for a Sustainability Cafe/Faculty Colloquium on Thursday, September 16, from 12:10 - 1:00 pm in the Clark Lounge.

Betsy plans to lead a dialogue on "Making Ithaca College a Model of Sustainability." Bring a bag lunch and join in this sure-to-be-lively discussion. Light refreshments and beverages will be offered.

Taylor will also be presenting a public lecture that same evening, Thursday, September 16, at 7:00 pm in the Emerson Suites, entitled "In Search of a Sustainable Future: Getting from Here to There."

The Center for a New American Dream is a national nonprofit organization working with households, institutions, and corporations to reduce and shift consumption to enhance quality of life, protect the natural environment, and secure greater social justice.

Taylor has devoted the past 25 years to leadership in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors. She served as executive director of the Merck Family Fund for five years and was vice-chair of the Environmental Grantmakers Association, a national federation of over 225 foundations in North America dedicated to environmental conservation. She is the author of Sustainable Planet: Solutions for the 21st Century (Beacon Press, 2002) and What Kids Really Want that Money Can't Buy (Warner Books, 2003). (Note: Our campus Bookstore has copies of the latter title in stock).

Betsy Taylor appears frequently on national television and radio talk shows and has been a keynote speaker before national conventions of industry, government, journalists, and environmental groups. Her opinion pieces have been published in the Washington Post, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and Boston Globe.
