Tired of Media Manipulation and Negative Campaigning?

Defend yourself and learn how to become a well-educated voter by attending the Voter's Self Defense Program on Tuesday, September 21, at 7:00 pm in Emerson Suites.

This one-hour, nonpartisan lecture/video presentation will examine outrageous political commercials, self-serving campaign attack ads, and hardball political tactics and will educate us all about the organized process and tactics used to manipulate voters and their votes. This program is free and open to the public.

This program is presented by Project Vote Smart, a bipartisan organization whose mission is to uphold the ideal of democracy and serve the American people with unbiased and accurate information. Project Vote Smart was founded in 1992 by national leaders as diverse as former Presidents Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford, former U.S. Senators Barry Goldwater and George McGovern, and former U.S. Representatives Newt Gingrich and Geraldine Ferraro. For more information visit Project Vote Smart.

All in attendance will receive the Voter's Self-Defense Manual, which includes 80 pages of data on candidates' voting records.

Our presenter is Richard Kimball, the president of Project Vote Smart. Kimball served in Washington on the staffs of Vice President Mondale and Senator Daniel Moynihan, and was elected chairman of the Arizona Corporation Commission and to the Arizona State Senate.

This program is sponsored by the Office of the President, Office of Student Affairs and Campus Life, Student Government Association, and the Voter Registration and Education Committee and is part of the Engaging Democracy Series sponsored by the Office of the Provost.
