The Ithacan recently received recognition from two national collegiate press organizations.
The Associated Collegiate Press has named the Ithacan a finalist for the 2004 Pacemaker Award -- an honor widely regarded as "the Pulitzer Prize of collegiate journalism" -- for newspapers produced during the 2003-04 academic year. Winners will be announced at the 83rd annual National College Media Convention, held November 3-7 in Nashville.
The Ithacan has been awarded the Pacemaker twice in the past, and was most recently a finalist in 2002.
The paper was also recently awarded Gold Medalist Certificates for the fall 2003 and spring 2004 semesters in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association's annual college newspaper critique. Each year the CSPA uses more than 150 criteria to judge member papers based on overall content, news, depth of reporting, features, opinion/editorial, sports, arts/entertainment, editorial/headline writing and design/graphic. The paper earned 927 on a 1,000-point scale for each semester.
"Great publication!!" wrote the judges. "This paper serves the Ithaca College community well. The editors and staff should be very proud of producing such a quality publication. Their hard work and dedication is apparent."
The Ithacan has been ranked as a Gold Medalist consistently for the past decade.
