Guarneri String Quartet Concert Friday

The Guarneri String Quartet is including a stop at Ithaca College on the group's 40th anniversary tour. The renowned ensemble will open the yearlong Ithaca College Concerts season "Celebrations" on Friday, October 1. The performance will begin at 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music.

The program will feature Mozart's String Quartet in B-flat Major, Maurice Ravel's String Quartet in F, and Frank Bridge's String Quartet no. 1 in E Minor.

The School of Music's resident Ariadne String Quartet will give a pre-concert lecture at 7:30 pm in the Robert A. Iger Lecture Hall in the Whalen Center. Seats will be held in Ford Hall for lecture attendees.

Currently composed of violinists Arnold Steinhardt and John Dalley, violist Michael Tree, and cellist Peter Wiley, the Guarneri String Quartet has circled the globe countless times since its formation in 1964. Forty years of marvelous music making have earned the group Chamber Music America's highest honor, the Richard J. Bogomolny National Service Award, which was presented to the group last January. Given annually to an individual or ensemble for a lifetime of service and achievement in the field, the Bogomolny award tops a long list of honors for the quartet, including the prestigious Award of Merit from the Association of Performing Arts Presenters.
