Faculty violinist Rebecca Ansel will give a free performance on Saturday, October 9, at 7:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital of the Whalen Center. Pianist Charis Dimaras will collaborate.

"I adore each of the works on this recital," said Ansel. "I designed the program around the sonata by Francis Poulenc, a divine work that is not played very often. It's a good chance to introduce it to those who are unfamiliar with it and pair it with two staples of the repertoire."

Those other two works are the Ravel sonata and one of Mozart's sonatas. "I love the style of Mozart as a contrast and introduction to the other two works. It also represents one of the first successful attempts of equalizing the voices. Prior to Mozart the violin part was more accompaniment in this combination."
