Native American Celebration Month

Help to honor the first nations people of the Finger Lakes region by attending the 2005 Native American Celebration Month at Ithaca College.

November 2, 7:00 pm, Emerson Suites -- Haudenosaunee Singers and Dancers with Sherri Waterman Hopper (Onondaga Beaver Clan), winner of the 2003 Wisdom Keepers Award. Enjoy participating in social dances that acknowledge the natural surroundings and celebrate friendship. Native artists and craftspeople will also display their work. November 3, 7:00 pm, Williams 323 -- Native American film: Dancing on Mother Earth, produced by Tula Goenka. Features a year in the life of singer-songwriter Joanne Shenandoah (Oneida Wolf Clan) and her close ties to her ancestry and belief in keeping balance with nature and standing up for the rights of the earth. November 10 -- Native American Outreach Day. For Native-American high school students interested in attending Ithaca College. Go to classes and learn about the college experience! Contact Vivia Hill, admissions, 607-274-3124.
November 11, departs 10:00 am -- Field trip to Canandaigua Treaty Day. Learn about the 1794 Treaty of Canandaigua still observed by Haudenosaunee Nations. Includes a procession and speeches by Native elders at Council Rock. For information, contact Jack Rossen, 607-274-3326.
November 16, 7:00 pm, IC Square, Campus Center -- Join Perry Ground (Onondaga), director of the Native American Resource Program in the Rochester School District, for an evening of storytelling and history. For information, contact Jack Rossen, 607-274-3326. Refreshments served.
