The International Trumpet Guild (ITG) has awarded a 2004 ITG Award of Merit to Kim Dunnick, professor of music performance at IC.
Dunnick is one of four recipients worldwide. With some 7,000 members in over 50 countries, the ITG is the world's foremost brass instrument organization. The honor was given for Dunnick's distinguished career in trumpet teaching and performance, his research and publishing record, and his outstanding service in support of the ITG's goals.
A longtime member of the ITG, Dunnick has served for the past 20 years on the Commissions Committee, which he currently chairs. He has also served on the Finance Committee. Active in the publishing of trumpet books and music and as a book review editor, Dunnick has assisted with the formation of the Australian Trumpet Guild, judged international competitions, and spearheaded the restructuring of ITG governance, particularly as it grew into its current international stature.
Dunnick has been teaching in the College's School of Music since 1981. In addition to private trumpet instruction, he teaches the brass class and coaches brass chamber music. He is a recipient of a Dana Teaching Fellowship, awarded for excellence in teaching.
A polished performer, Dunnick has been a member of the Knoxville and Elmira Symphonies, the Brasswind quintet, and for 10 years was the solo trumpet of the Victoria Bach Festival in Texas. He has played with the Syracuse and Binghamton Symphonies, the BC Pops, and the Evansville Little Symphony. Currently he is the principal trumpet with the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra.
Other recipients of the 2004 ITG Award of Merit are William Adam, retired professor of trumpet at Indiana University; Frank Kaderabek, former principal trumpet with the Philadelphia Orchestra; and Anatoly Selianin, professor of trumpet at the Saratov Conservatory in Russia.
