An Ithaca College student who fell from a residence hall fire escape last Friday, October 22, remains hospitalized, though her condition has improved. Ellie O'Neill, a sophomore business administration major and member of the crew team, is now listed in good condition at University Hospital in Syracuse.

President Peggy R. Williams has spoken with O'Neill's family, offering the full support of the College community. "I conveyed on behalf of the entire campus community that we extend to Ellie and her family our prayers and our wishes for a speedy recovery," said Williams.

The Ithaca College Office of Public Safety is continuing its investigation into the incident, which occurred shortly before 10:00 p.m. at the Garden Apartment 27 residence hall. According to witnesses, O'Neill was attending a party being held by student residents of a third-story apartment when she stepped through the kitchen window and onto the exterior fire escape. She then fell from the fire escape, landing on the ground approximately 22 feet below.

Responding to the scene were public safety officers, the Ithaca Fire Department, and Bangs Ambulance. O'Neill was airlifted by Mercy Flight Central helicopter to University Hospital in Syracuse.

Investigators are continuing to interview witnesses and ask anyone who might have information to call 274-3333.
