Walking the Line and Mad Cow Crusaders -- two documentaries made by students enrolled in the documentary research course in IC's Park School -- will be screened on Thursday, November 11.
>Free and open to the public, the event will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Park Hall Auditorium.
"Students in the doc research course work in teams as independent producers," says Ben Crane, the associate professor of television-radio teaching the course. "The students carry out the research, planning, production, and editing necessary to make a documentary feature. Their ambitious efforts result in a book, an illustrated lecture on the topic, and a pilot film, all of which are presented to a panel of judges at the end of the semester."
Two of the student groups decided to continue with their projects once the class was over and finish the pilots. Those two documentaries will be screened November 11. The student producers, along with executive producer Crane, will be present to answer questions.
Mad Cow Crusaders profiles two individuals struggling to inform the public about the dangers of mad cow disease. The student producers are Dan Shott '06, Rachel Webster '06, Matt Antalek '06, and Jaime Foster '06.
Walking the Line takes place on the border between the United States and Mexico. The documentary tells the story of people who take the law into their own hands to intercept illegal immigrants from Mexico. The students producers are Jeremy Levine '06 and Landon Van Soest '04.
