A free all-cello recital will be presented by Elizabeth Simkin with Heidi Hoffman on Sunday, February 6, at 4:00 pm in the Hockett Family Recital Hall of the Whalen Center.

Simkin will perform two works for solo cello by J. S. Bach and Cassado. She will be joined by Hoffman for works of Gabrieli and Franchomme, and will be joined by a tape of herself for music of Steve Reich. The works come from five different centuries and five different countries, providing an unusually varied musical program.

Elizabeth Simkin is an associate professor of music performance and performs with the Ariadne String Quartet. She is also active with Ithaca's Ensemble X. Simkin has appeared as soloist with the Buffalo Chamber Orchestra and the New Music Festival, and been principal cellist of the Richmond Symphony. She was teaching assistant to the renowned Janos Starker at Indiana University at Bloomington.

Heidi Hoffman has toured the United States, South America, Europe, and Japan with such groups as the American Symphony, the Jupiter Symphony, and the Tchaikovsky Chamber Orchestra. She has been a member of the Syracuse Symphony since 1995. She is presently a lecturer in cello performance at Ithaca College.
