"An Exhibition of Pictures" is the theme for a free recital by pianist Read Gainsford on Friday, February 11, at 8:15 pm in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the Whalen Center.
The theme is a take-off on the title of a work by Moussorgsky, Pictures at an Exhibition. Gainsford will perform music inspired by pictures, including Rachmaninoff's complete Etudes-Tableaux, op. 39, and music of Debussy.
Gainsford, an associate professor of music performance, has earned critical and public acclaim on four continents, and won prizes in many national and international competitions. A native of New Zealand, he joined the IC faculty in 1997. He has performed widely in the USA, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, as solo recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician. He has made successful solo debuts at the Wigmore Hall and Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, as well as performing in many other venues, including the John F. Kennedy Center, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Barbican Centre, Birmingham Town Hall and St-Martin-in-the-Fields.
