The Office of Career Services is beginning its peer career adviser (PCA) selection process for the 2005-2006 academic year.
Peer career advisers function as paraprofessional staff in the career services office and assist other students with career issues such as:
Most important, the peer career adviser program is a unique leadership opportunity for students who are interested in helping others while also working on their own career development.
Qualifications -- A willingness to work with peers in a high-paced environment; being flexible and willing to adapt to change; an interest in having fun while working with others; interest in career issues and learning about the career development process. The program is open to any current freshman, sophomore, or junior from any major. Please note, prior knowledge of Career Services programs and resources, while helpful, is not required of applicants as PCAs complete significant training each year.
Responsibilities -- Four scheduled office hours per week; a weekly one-hour meeting and training session every Thursday at noon; involvement with major events such as Job and Internship Fair and Graduate School Fair; participation in the recruitment and selection of the following year's PCA staff; availability to participate in additional training sessions as needed.
Application Process -- Applications are available at the Career Services office, 1101 Gannett Center and the deadline to apply is Friday, March 4, at 5:00 pm. Should you know of students who could add to our team, please encourage them to apply!
