The date has been set for the 2005 community fireworks show in Ithaca. The fireworks will be shot from atop the Ithaca College campus on Friday night, July 1, to kick off the local observance of the Independence Day weekend.
The Ithaca community fireworks show has always been scheduled in advance of the actual holiday, according to Fran Benedict, chairman of the volunteer committee that organizes the show.
“We want everyone to know the date now,” Benedict said, “so they can mark their calendars for Central New York's best fireworks display.” As usual, traditional and patriotic festivities will precede the fireworks display.
“It's not too early to make a donation to support this year's show,” Benedict said. He explained that contributions continue to be the mainstay of the Ithaca fireworks shows, which began in 1947.
Donations to support the 2005 fireworks show can be made by sending checks to the Community Fireworks Committee in care of Tompkins Trust Company, The Ithaca Commons, PO Box 460, Ithaca, NY 14851.
