The Ithaca Wind Quintet will give a free concert on Thursday, March 17, at 8:15 pm in the Hockett Family Recital Hall.
They will welcome pianist Read Gainsford for one work on the program, a trio for clarinet, piano, and French horn by Carl Reinicke. Other music on the program is a transcription of Mozart's Fantasy in F minor, Villa-Lobos's Bachianas Brasileiras No. 6 for oboe and bassoon, and Ibert's Three Short Pieces.
The Ithaca Wind Quintet was founded in 1963. It tours throughout the northeast performing concerts and giving master classes and demonstrations at conventions, universities, and high schools. They have premiered works of Dana Wilson and Karel Husa, among others. The members of the quintet are flutist Wendy Herbener Mehne, oboist Paige Morgan, clarinetist Michael Galván, bassoonist Lee Goodhew, and Alex Shuhan, French horn.
